Objectives

The objectives of the institute have defined as follows:-

• To carry out integrated studies to evaluate functioning of different ecosystems and their desired land use systems that exist throughout Nigeria and to suggest the direction in which improvement is required to maintain sustained productivity of these ecosystems

• To become a national Centre of Competence for providing policy options, information and data on renewable natural resources of the country to the Nation’s planners and  decision maker (for formulating National Economic Development Plans for Nigeria) and to the Nation’s farmers, herdsmen and fishermen through close co-operation with extension agencies.

• To provide postgraduate training facilities including those for graduate diplomas, master and doctoral studies in various field of ecology.

The programme of the institute are planned to tackle:

• Ecological problems of agricultural development
• Ecological problems of technological transfer
• Ecological problems of human health and welfare
• Ecological problems of industrial development
• Ecological problems of urbanization
